Nursery 2
This painting, the second of Nursery series, depicts a coral nursery and the aquatic sea life that call these living systems home. Seen here are blue striped grunt (Haemulon sciurus), yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), and various other fish of the coral reef.
The ecosystem and the organisms that inhabit it are painted in oil, while the figures, drawn from natural history photography archives, are painted in watercolor on absorbent ground, a technical disparity that speaks to the duality of humanity's connection and dseperation from the natural world.
